Town Center of Mililani celebrated the dedication of its public art installation, “Starstruck” by Hawaiian artist, Kim Duffett. Located near Consolidated Theaters Mililani 14, the 15′ bronze and stainless steel crescent moon sits on a base of the Hawaiian star compass in venetian glass tile. The sculpture is a nod to Mililani’s history as a gathering place where the ancient Hawaiian Chiefs would come to seek wisdom. The name Mililani translates to “beloved place of Chiefs”.

“As part of our major redevelopment here at the Town Center, we set out to improve and enhance the customer experience, and we felt strongly about bringing public art to the center that would be accessible to everyone, and that would reflect the deep history of the land on which this center is built,” said Leolani Kini, Property Manager at The Town Center of Mililani.

Artist Kim Duffett finds his inspiration in the land of Hawai’i and in its cultures, both ancient and modern. Starstruck was inspired by the mystery and the magic of the stars, historically seen in abundance from the site that is now Town Center of Mililani. Duffett’s vision is a permanent monument to be enjoyed by the community of Mililani now and for many years into the future.

As part of the sculpture’s unveiling, Town Center of Mililani made a donation to the Polynesian Voyaging Society to support their work perpetuating the art and science of traditional Polynesian voyaging and the spirit of exploration through experiential education programs.
