PITTSBURGH – The Waterfront Shopping Center, located just outside the city of Pittsburgh, announced today that Siemens Mobility, Inc. and Commonwealth Charter Academy have signed long-term lease agreements to occupy the former Macy’s Department Store. As the latest evolution of the center, more than 500 people will be moving into the vibrant retail and office hub at the heart of The Waterfront.

“We’re continuously improving the experience for our guests, tenants and visitors,” said Marty Sweeney, Senior Vice President of M & J Wilkow, The Waterfront’s Managing Partner. “Redeveloping a former department store into a 135,000-square-foot Class A office building adds another layer of vitality to The Waterfront.”

The Waterfront purchased the Macy’s space in 2018 in an effort to continue expanding the center’s mix of retailers and tenants.

Siemens Mobility, a global leader in transport solutions for more than 160 years, will operate an engineering and R&D hub for rail infrastructure. Siemens Mobility will occupy 56,165 square feet on the second floor.

Top accredited K-12 public cyber charter school, Commonwealth Charter Academy, will lease the building’s first floor, spanning 64,197 square feet. As the organization’s Western Pennsylvania-based hub, the space will house administrative offices and production labs.

The newly reinvented building is designed to establish The Waterfront as a true lifestyle center where residents and visitors can shop, dine, play and now, work.

“Both tenants desired a large floorplan to fit their operations on one floor as well as a central location with a host of accessible amenities,” continued Sweeney. “As a destination center, The Waterfront has a lot to offer business tenants – multiple restaurants, entertainment and retail options, three hotels, beautiful apartment living, a full-service fitness center, and a river trail for biking, jogging or walking. This multifaceted business ecosystem is exactly what employers and employees are seeking.”

The two story building will open at 90-percent capacity, with only 13,000 square feet on the second floor remaining available for lease. Interested parties can contact Marty Sweeney.
