One of the few things lacking over the years at the Waterfront is that there wasn't a good place in the restaurant, retail and entertainment complex were you could feel like a lumberjack. That will change Thursday when THROW Axe opens its third location next to the Pittsburgh Improv.
As you might expect, the interactive axe-throwing venue allows competitors to throw an axe at a target. But unlike elimination-style tournaments at other destinations, THROW sets up matches allowing players of all skill levels to enjoy the game for the full duration of their booking. Players can also mix axe throwing with word and trivia games during their sessions.
Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, patrons can enjoy beverages from a cash bar offered by Wigle Whiskey. Penn Brewery beverages will also be available.
Opening day will also feature the launch of their "Thoughtful Throw Thursday" initiative, where 50 percent of profits from any THROW location will be donated to charity. The Mario Lemieux Foundation will be the first benefificiary of this effort.
Opening soon near THROW will be El Campesino, a family owned Mexican restaurant chain whose other southwestern Pennyslvania locations are in Ross, Monroeville, McMurray, Robinson and Altoona.
